Puppy Love
A flurry of fur, a wagging tail,
A happy yip, a playful, soft attack,
You pounce and tumble, never seem to fail
To bring the joy that my poor heart did lack.
Your clumsy paws on hardwood make a sound,
A frantic scamper followed by a slide,
And on the rug, a toy is quickly found,
With which you're ready, joyful, side-by-side.
You chew my shoelace, lick my waiting hand,
A tiny life, so full of careless glee,
The sweetest friend in all this weary land,
A pure devotion given just to me.
In this brief moment, all the world is bright,
A tiny dog, a human's shared delight.
